Author Sandra Love: Author Spotlight with Alisa Mullen

1. Author Bio:

Mullen grew up in Maine and has lived in many cities across the US. She likes to travel but craves to travel to places in her mind. She combines life experience and imagination on paper. She has been a writer since she was eight years old when her mother told her she couldn’t believe she wrote so genuinely. Throughout schooling, she wrote poems and stories.

Writing took a back seat when she fell into the business world rat race and tried out several occupations. Nothing ever felt more satisfying than writing. She published her first book “Unsettled” in February. “Unchosen” and “Unrequited” completing the Chosen Series...for now. She released a suspense novella, "One Missing Link" in May and her WIP is The Good Bye Trilogy, “Plastic Confidence” Book One, is due out August 18, 2014.

In her rare off time, she enjoys baseball with her family. Her husband and their two children are major Rangers and Red Sox fans. They live between San Antonio and Austin, Texas and like it there. It’s very quiet, a great place to write. Mullen also own her own macramé necklace business, Devika Knots, which she started it with her daughter five years ago and it has become a great business. Art is her life.

When did you start to write? When was you first book published?

I began writing as a child. Short stories and poems. In college, I mostly wrote critical essays and some creative pieces. My first book, Unsettled, was released on February 5, 2014.

What inspired you to become an author?

I have always believed I would publish. When I became unemployed, I looked into writing a book, publishing a book, etc. When it appeared doable, I set to work for about six months, learning everything I could about how to do it. I go big or go home. It is seriously an addiction now, as I am releasing my fourth novel in six months.

What are you working on right now? Do you have a release date set for it?

I am working on Plastic Confidence, the first in the Goodbye Trilogy. It will release on August 18, 2014.

The story is based on actual events.

Out of all the books you have written what is your favorite book? Who is your favorite character?

Oh I love Plastic Confidence because I am smack in the middle of it. I think we all love what we are working on. You release the work to the world and move on. However, Unchosen (the 2^nd in the Chosen Series) is my favorite so far. I am in love with Lizzie O’Malley from the Chosen Series. The enormity of her coming of age throughout is amazing. She goes through so much in her life and is real, honest, and so strong.

What advice do you give to new authors?

You can do this. It is a step by step, one day at a time. You can’t look at it like it is a big project. It is just a few words here and there. Oh, and when you don’t feel like writing? That is when you will write the best.
