A shocking tale of romance and deception, N.B. Baker’s Everything is an impressive debut that proves no secret is ever really buried. Ella Stone is struggling to pick up the pieces of her life. Abandoned by her parents when she was an infant, both of the grandparents who raised her are now gone. Facing her future for the first time, Ella decides to move to Detroit in order to be near her two best friends. After a misguided relationship with a man she finds in bed with another woman, Ella begins doubting her life-changing move. That is, until she meets Chance St. John. When Chance fends off a brutal attack, he and Ella share an instant connection. As the two get to know each other, their passionate exploits both in and out of the bedroom make way for a deeper connection for which neither one was quite prepared. But despite their increasing closeness, Ella can’t shake the feeling that Chance is hiding something from her. His frequent nightmares and skittish responses point to a secret in his past that haunts him still. While Ella attempts to uncover Chance’s mysterious past, her own life takes a turn for the strange. As Everything builds to its explosive climax, Ella must discover the truth before Chance’s dark past consumes them both.

Excerpt 1
“Ella,” the soft whisper caresses my ear. I can feel the heat from his breath
float across my skin. I feel Hunter’s hard length press into my backside. I tilt my
head back so that he has better access to my neck. He plants soft kisses along the
skin just below my ear, down my neck, and across my collarbone. His hand slides
up under my shirt and cups my breast. He rolls my taught nipples between his
fingers and pulls gently. A soft moan escapes my lips, and I reach behind me and
palm his hard-on through his jeans. I can feel heat pulsing through my body as
desire starts to build between my legs. I twist around, pull his face down to mine,
and push my tongue into his mouth. I lift my hands over my head as Hunter pulls
my shirt off and throws it to the ground. I reach up and run my hands across his
muscular shoulders, over his chest, and down to grasp the button of his jeans.
He walks me backward and pushes me onto the feather-like softness of our
bed. Slowly, he pulls my pants off and slides me gently to the center of the bed.
He grabs my legs and wraps them over his shoulders. He lowers his head right
down into my pulsing heat, and the anticipation builds in my core.

He lifts his head; his dark-green eyes meet mine, and he says, “Your parents
never wanted you, and neither do I.”

 Excerpt 2

He looks deep into my eyes as I run my hands back up
his chest and push his shirt and jacket off his shoulders onto the floor. Heat
rushes through me as my eyes drink in every inch of him. Chance kisses my
neck and starts working his way across my collarbone down to where the dress
meets my shoulder. Moving it gently so that it falls down my arm, he kisses
his way to my other shoulder where he does the same thing, causing the dress
to pool around my feet. I’m standing in nothing but the garter belt, hose, and
stilettos. He runs his eyes across my body, sending yet another wave of heat
through me.
In a low, sexy-as-hell voice, Chance says, “Leave them on, baby. I want to
take them off of you.”
He turns around and heads into the bedroom. Just as quickly as he left, he’s
back out, carrying a blanket and pillows. He takes large strides to where I stand
and swoops me up into his arms. I wrap my legs around him, and he carries me
out onto the balcony. Chance throws the blanket and pillow to the ground and
lays me gently on top of them. Sitting on his knees between my legs, he leans
down over me, running his hand from my neck down to my hips, watching his
hand as it glides down my body. I lean my body into his touch.
I need to feel him consuming me completely. “Chance, please…”
He puts each of my legs over his shoulders and then lowers his face to my
core. One soft movement of his tongue against my wet flesh and I fall over the
edge. I reach down, grab a handful of his hair, and pull him up to me. “Chance,
I need you inside of me, please!”

 Excerpt 3
As I pull out of the parking lot, the music disappears and is replaced by something
that sounds like a crumpling soda can. I feel my body jerk into the window,
and what feels like a million needles hit my bare skin. A sharp pain runs the entire
length of the left side of my body. I feel warm liquid running down my face,
and every time I try to open my eyes, they burn like someone is stabbing them
with red-hot pokers. I try to move to relieve some of the pain, but I can’t; my
body is pinned down. I start to scream for someone to help me, but everything
goes dark before a single sound can leave me.

The band has started to play a slow song. Chance grabs my hand and leads me
out onto the dance floor. He stops and turns around. He takes my hands,
lifting them over my head as he runs his hand down my arms. I start swaying my
hips slowly to the music, brushing against him. I hear him let out a low growl.
He tucks his head into my neck and lets his hands continue to travel down my
sides and over my hips to the hem of my dress. There are those hundreds of hummingbirds
flying around in my stomach. I run my hands across his chest and
then lower my body to the beat of the music. My hands keep wandering down
his muscular legs and then back up until they are around his neck again. Chance
has his arm folded around my back and tugs my leg up to his hip.
I am so absorbed in him that I have forgotten that we’re in public surrounded
by a ton of people. The music stops, and there is a loud explosion of applause and
whistles. I’m beyond shocked when I realize that it’s not for the band but for the
show that Chance and I just put on.
Justin and Sarah are walking off the dance floor beside us. Justin looks down
at me with a big-brother expression on his face. “You’re lucky I don’t ground you
for that!” I can feel my face turn bright red, and all I can do is smack him.
