Former CIA operative Nick Seven has worked hard to create a new life in the Florida Keys with his Barbadian lover, Felicia Hagens. Their life in paradise takes an unexpected turn when a double agent that Nick sent to prison is granted an early parole. Nick still remembers what Simon Larch said when he was sentenced– “Someday I’ll get you for this. You won’t know when or how. Just wait for it.” Larch is supposedly in another state, so who’s responsible for the ominous threats Nick receives, and how does Larch seem to know everything about Nick’s past? My Review
Thank you for taking time to answer my questions!!!
1.) So can you tell us how you came up
with the idea for this book? The Title?
Throughout this series I’ve used the common thread of
something from the hero’s past coming back to haunt him. He’s a former spy who
made a lot of enemies, so it isn’t a stretch. I had the idea of a double agent
that he sent to prison getting paroled then coming after him for revenge. The
title “Operation Payback” seemed to be a good fit. After several stories where
Nick Seven was the hunter, I thought it would be fun to shake things up and
make him the prey, just to see what he’d do.
2.) Who is your favorite character in
this book and why?
The heroine, Felicia Hagens, is my favorite character in
this story. In the previous installments I’ve established her as very strong
and tough (she’s also a former CIA spook), but this one gives her the chance to
take a more active role in solving the big puzzle. I’ve developed the
relationship between the two leads into something strong and this adventure
gives them the chance to show how much they really care for each other.
3.) Is this book different from the
others you have written in the past? If so how?
This one is a little different because I worked in a message,
which is something I try to avoid. I wanted to show how easily the average
person can be stalked and then implicated in something they didn’t do. My hero,
Nick Seven, doesn’t realize at first that he’s being targeted by an ex-con with
a grudge until little things begin happening. The psychological warfare he’s
put through is very real and could happen to any of us.
For the record, I am not paranoid – except for all those
people out to get me! I know who you are.
4.) What is your favorite genre to write
and why?
My favorite genre is mystery/thriller but I’m also
comfortable writing the occasional romantic comedy. I gravitate toward
mysteries because that’s what I enjoy reading, and I’m a big fan of old film
noir B-movies. My other series features a private eye who’s an old school
gumshoe in a contemporary setting. I try to incorporate the pulp fiction style
in all of my stories, using complex plot twists, tough heroes and heroines,
quirky characters, vivid atmosphere and snappy dialogue laced with sexual
tension. Liberal doses of hot sex don’t hurt, either.
5.) Does your family and friends read
your book?
My family and friends do read my books. My late mother was
one of my biggest fans, and she didn’t even blush at the erotic scenes. Of
course, she read everything written by Harold Robbins and Mickey Spillane so I
think she was beyond being shocked. I always tell my friends and family if the
book contains adult content, though. I have a cousin who won’t read my stuff
because of that but I respect her convictions and we’re still close.
6.) What are you currently working on?
Do you have a release date yet? Title?
I’m currently working on two more Nick Seven adventures and
another installment in my private eye series. I recently completed a
holiday-themed story that I’ll be releasing next year. I also have an anthology
of erotic short stories in need of a publisher, if anyone is interested.
7.) What inspired you to become an
author?
I developed an interest in writing while in high school and
wrote a number of short stories that never saw daylight. About fifteen years
ago I had an idea for a story and challenged myself to either write it or shut
up about it. I found a publisher who liked it and we were off to the races.
That’s when I decided to pursue my dream of being an author. Fifteen books
later and I’m still at it.
8.) Tell us a little about yourself.
I’m an award-winning, bestselling
author whose books range from romantic mystery/thrillers to contemporary erotic
romance. I also dabble as a freelance photographer when I have time. I live in
Dayton, Ohio and my day job is working with adults with special needs. I can
often be found in the Florida Keys, doing research in between parasailing and
seeking out the perfect Mojito. If I’m not there, try the Buckhorn Tavern in
Dayton.
This or That: (Just for Fun)
1.) Erotic Novels or New Adult?
Erotic novels, especially if they’re
hot enough for me to turn down the furnace.
2.) Paranormal or Sci-fi?
Sci-fi, because I’ve never
understood paranormal.
3.) Cat or Dog?
I’ve always been a dog person, but I
like certain breeds of cats, too.
4.) Night or Day?
Night, especially when it’s preceded
by a beautiful sunset over water.
5.) Winter or Summer?
Summer. I’m definitely an outdoors
person.
